Nilometer at Medinet Habu
Although called the 'Nilometer' this is actually a well constructed by Nectanebo I and it has a passageway leading downwards to the ground water level.

There is a paved pathway leading to the Nilometer from the First Courtyard and its superstructure is inscribed with images of Hapy (who was associated with the inundation of the Nile), as are the internal walls. The structure begins with downward sloping steps (bounded by two thin ramps) which stretch for 20 feet. At the bottom, at a right angle to the passageway, is a further structure leading a short distance to the water (which is currently high than in ancient times because of the Aswan dam). It is clear that originally this would have continued downwards and have had steps, but is now submerged.
