Reconstructed burial of a female sacrificial victim Classic Kerma, about 1750-1550 BC. The tumuli of the later Kushite rulers contained a large room or corridor to house the sacrificial victims put to death at the time of the ruler's burial. Tumulus KX contained over 300 such victims. Many of these were women, perhaps members of the ruler's harem. Jewellery, pottery, tools and headrests accompanied some of the victims who were apparently buried alive.
