Painted wooden lid of a Canopic Jar of Mentuhotep II dating to the late 11th Dynasty. From his tomb at Deir el Bahri (western Thebes) (EA 47628). The Jars were made from Calcite (alabaster) and only fragments were recovered from him tomb - this lid is the earliest datable example of a human headed lid.
