Granite, 4th Dynasty Recumbent Lion from Ihnasya el-Medina (Herakleopolis Magna)
south-east of Fayum. Designed to guard the
entrance of a sanctuary. Earliest example of life-size lion statue, excavated in 1891 by the Egypt Exploration Fund
(EES).
