Dendera was a provincial capital and had temples dating to the Old Kingdom and many new Kingdom Kings were known to have added to them. This temple dates from the Greco-Roman periods and is dedicated to Hathor, several Ptolemaic Kings added to its interior, and it is the best preserved temple in Egypt.
